Palm Bay is the most populous city in Brevard County and the largest by land area, with 119,760 residents at the 2020 census. It is home to a major L3Harris Technologies campus on Palm Bay Road. Locals know it for Turkey Creek, the Indian River waterfront, and freshwater fishing and trails on the west side of town.
The Ais people lived at the mouth of Turkey Creek long before John Tillman settled there in the late 1870s and ran a steamboat wharf. The settlement was renamed Palm Bay in the 1920s. In 1959 General Development Corporation platted the huge Port Malabar project, and the city incorporated on January 16, 1960. Palm Bay is a large, spread-out city of single-family homes split into four quadrants, with the busiest, most urban area in the Northeast and rural land in the Southwest. Daily life runs along Malabar Road, Palm Bay Road and Babcock Street, with quick I-95 access to the rest of the Space Coast.
