Buying your first home is a series of small, clear decisions. This guide puts them in order so you know what comes next and what it costs.

Your payment includes principal, interest, property taxes, homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance and any HOA dues. In Florida, add wind and flood insurance where needed. Plan for closing costs of about 2% to 5% of the price, plus a cushion for moving and repairs.
